Clean slats are an important part of ensuring process stability of flatbed laser cutting machines. A new slat cleaner integrating an innovative cleaning process has recently been released by sheet metal experts Trumpf.
If slag is allowed to build up on the slats of a laser cutting machine, not only is the quality of the process compromised, but so too is the quality of the finished part. Now, thanks to a new process, the TruTool TCS 100 slat cleaner can remove slag from stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum laser processing more thoroughly than previous methods. The tool is even able to clean the slats on the side as well as in the hard-to-reach spaces in between, resulting in an outstanding cleanliness that ensures a long service life for the slats.
The TruTool TSC 100 slat cleaner will automatically adapt to different slag thicknesses and the operator can move the tool up to the pallet frame. What’s more, it can be operated by just one person and the operator can start using the tool in any slat row. The slat cleaner is able to clean selectively, meaning it can be used on any specific area and then removed. This feature is especially useful when the laser produces smaller parts and only one area of the support slats is getting clogged with slag.
The operator places it on any area of the support slats and turns it on. Two vertical rows of toothed tools press onto the slat and move forward, scraping the slag off each slat with a smooth forward motion. Placed on the slats from above, the cleaning rollers open and move back downwards. During this process, the TruTool TSC 100 is simply propelled forward as it cleans.
On flatbed laser machines with a pallet changer, cleaning can even take place while production is running and without having to remove the slats, saving time and allowing overall higher productivity. A standard-sized 1,500 mm x 3,000 mm pallet can be cleaned in about 30 minutes. The slat cleaner can be used on practically all conventional flatbed laser machines with laser power up to 7 kW, enabling slats to be cleaned several times before replacement becomes necessary.
